This paper discusses the violence against women, and the genocide or "ethnic cleansing" of Muslim populations, employed or encouraged by the State in India to uphold a Hindu way of life. It looks particularly at the massacres in Gujarat in 2002, and explores connections to nation-building by demographics. Various levels of government were complicit in the riots and murders, demonstrating the role of national and international bodies in upholding ethnic nationalist hegemonies. Cet article analyse la violence falte aux femmes, le genocide et l'epuration ethnique des populations musulmanes employee ou encouragee en Inde par l'Etat afin de garantir des modes de vie hindous. Il examine plus particulierement les massacres de Gujarat (2002), surtout dans le cadre de la construction de nations par la demographie. Differentes branches du gouvernement ont ete complices de meurtres et d'emeutes, soulignant le role que jouent certains organismes nationaux et internationaux dans le maintien des hegemonies ethniques et nationalistes.
